Painting!

I may night have had time to blog it, but work on the Glamper continues!

new paint

With all that has been going on here at our house, you'd think that work on the Happy Glamper has been stalled. But you'd be wrong! Check out her new face lift, thanks to Moogie!

Moogie in her element. She and I made a stencil using the highly technical tool of a kitchen bowl with tape, and a cookie-cutter heart. We had to use special paint suited to painting aluminum. It certainly made the camper look cleaner, and happier.
We have also been making a lot of improvements to the interior, but that will be another post...

Prime Time

Setting up this morning - drop cloths, paint chips, and liquid sander.
I spent the morning in the hospital with my little baby in the NICU. In the meantime, my mother sanded, caulked and spackled. Then, naturally, it was time for a break:
After naptime, it was 'prime time'! We couldn't decide which was a better description, 'hair on fire' or 'tasmanian devil' to adequately capture what it was like to prime with two 4-year-olds, and a 2-year-old. But boy, did they have fun!
A little part of me died when I had to tell Amelia to tone down the action painting :).
Yes, the mess was about as big as you'd expect. But that's what bubble baths are for!

It's sparkly!

Want to guess where we are using this? Also, Amelia's reaction was pretty priceless:

Meet our Happy Glamper

It started with a picture in a magazine, which lead to my Pinterest board, that I have been faithfully adding to for months. Why are camper trailers so fun? They're compact. They represent summer trips, freedom, the best of Americana. When my excellent mother and I saw a glamped camper at a flea market, we decided we had to do it. First, we had to find the right one. KSL was our trusty guide, and not two days later we came home with our beauty:
Looks like the space was created for it, eh? We're not sure what kind of camper it is exactly, but judging from the refrigerator:
And the fabulous knobs and the style of the shelves:

We are guessing its from the late 1940s or 50s. What really sold us was the curvature. What a fun space!:

And details like these:
There's some significant water damage, but nothing a little caulking and paint can't clean up. We're following inspiration like this:

Plans are to paint the interior a bright white, with trim in aqua and yellow. Bunting is a necessity. Recovering cushions in a stripey fabric. And I'll record it all here on the blog! First thing to do was remove all the ugly excessive hardware and bang in the loose nails. A good opportunity to teach my girls about philips heads and hammers!

We're imagining a backyard hideaway that we can all play in through all four seasons. In the future, it would make a pretty rad hang out for a bunch of teenage girls. For now, my girls think its a great place to read books, and of course jump on the bed. They pretty much think this is the best purchase decision we've ever made.
